WEYBOURNE BASS FISHING

Image
Seeing as we were staying a stones throw from the North Norfolk coast it would of been rude not to of wet a line for a few hours at least once whilst i was there. So thats what i did one evening while Sharon and her friend were happily quaffing Prosecco as the kids were playing with the bogs i sneakily loaded up the van with some gear headed towards the shingle beach at Weybourne, which screamed bass!!!!!! On my previous visit i had stopped and had a chat with a local husband and wife fishing team who knew the area quite well. They explained to me that the beach dropped off close in and was good for bass just a 20-30 yard lob out just past the shelf. When the weather was a lot wilder the following day when we visited you could actually see the start of the shelf as the waves pulled back. So armed with their advice still ringing in my ears and some fresh lugworm and ragworm from the local tackle shop in Sheringham i was back to hopefully winkle out a plump bass. I arrived at the ...

LOW WATER BASSING.......

On Monday eve i decided i fancied having a fish for bass at a local mark only a couple of miles from where i live. Unfortunately the water was going to be at its lowest point but i thought i,d give it a go anyway as it had been a nice day and how better to end it than sitting on the rocks overlooking the river as the sun went down. With some nice ragworm picked up from Trev the baitman, short notice but he still helped me out, of i set with one rod, bucket and tackle vest. Oh, and Oscar in tow.  After a 10 minute walk i stopped at the area that i wanted to fish and set up a single hook rig with a light lead and chucked it out as far as possible. Baited with ragworm the idea was that the lead would roll along with the flow and settle either in a dip in the river bed or on a patch of rough ground. Both areas that are likely to attract fish at some point. Over the few hours i was there i fished long, mid and short ranges but only had a few rattles which didn,t result in any fish o...

ANOTHER SKATE...

A couple of evenings ago i decided to have another go at catching a thornback ray at a local mark. I got there a good 4 hours before high tide to fish the tide up in hope of catching some bass as well. Fortunately the mark i wanted to fish was free so i quickly set up my rods and started to cast various squid, herring and ragworm hookbaits out at different ranges. I use 3 rods whenever i can as it gives you more scope, most fish come to the 2 rods cast to the horizon but its surprising how often the short distance rod will produce the bigger fish. There was no action until just before high tide when as i was having a little beach comb i noticed my ragworm baited rod start to nod then pull down. As ran up the shore whatever was on the end of my like just kept on pulling until my tripod and all 3 rods had come crashing down on the rocks. Once the active rod was picked up mi started to pump in a heavy weight which thumped every so often. I wasn,t sure what was on the other end but was p...
