ITS BEEN A WHILE....

Image
Well its been quite some time since i last updated my blog. Not a lot has happened really fishing wise, i,ve been really busy getting my new business venture of the ground and taking a much needed holiday in the sun with my lovely lady. I have been making plans for this winters fishing though and am chomping at the bit for the pike season to begin. I do lure fish a little during the summer but its the winters bait fishing that gets my blood flowing. I,ve also been doing some research into a couple of local club waters that have catfish in them ready for next season. Well lets start with the holiday, and what a holiday it was too. We spent a fortnight on the Island of St Vincent in The Grenadines, at a beautiful resort called Buccament Bay. The resort was fantastic, beautiful setting, good food, friendly people, good food, cracking weather, good food. Does it show I like my grub!!! Anyway i,ll not go into the holiday too much just the spot of fishing I did while we were there. As i...

LATEST UPDATE

Image
Well I,ve actually managed to have a bit of fishing lately as she who must be obeyed has been dragging me to  the weddings of various friends and I have been grumbling at how little time i,ve had to go fishing. In the end I think I actually pissed her off so much that she told me to shut the f*** up and go for the weekend . I didn,t need telling twice and I was off like a shot to my secret squirrel syndicate water. When I arrived all the swims I fancied where occupied so I opted to fish the deeper water as there had been a few out from that area the previous week. After setting up camp in my chosen swim I found that there wasn,t actually much weed here, unlike the rest of the lake which is top to bottom with eel grass. Out went a couple of dozen spombs full of particle to a nice gravel area 10ft out from some reeds and two rods were dropped in the area. One on fake corn and the other on a snowman. The third rod was launched as far as I could towards the island on a chod rig. ...

FLIPPING GREAT !!!!!

Image
Many years ago I spent a week fishing a beautiful fjord in Norway on a trip arranged by a friend of mine Allan. The pike fishing was quite hard going both with bait and lures and over the coarse of the week I can only remember a few small doubles to be the largest caught. None the less a great time was had by all. And whats the point of mentioning my Norway trip you may ask, other than me reminiscing, well on said trip I had great fun using a small firetiger Ace Flipper jerkbait. This little lure managed to attract pike from literally anywhere I cast it, only jack pike mind you but fish none the less. upon arriving home I tried this little lure on my usual waters and again they succeeded most everywhere. Unfortunately early one winters morning while luring on The Old West I got snagged on something which I couldn,t move from the river bed which resulted in the inevitable braid snap. My bestest favourite lure was gone forever. And to top it all on arriving home and scouring t...

SURFACE ACTION

Image
I finally managed to grab a couple of hours fishing yesterday evening as the better half is away on hols for the weekend. Surface fishing for carp was the order of the day, and with my tackle all loaded up of I set for the gruelling journey of half a mile up the road. Its quite handy living in the back of beyond as within 5 miles I have at least 5 different fisheries i can tackle. Well I arrived and was shocked by what I saw. The club water I was planning on fishing has 8 small pits all old and heavily planted with bushes, trees, lilies, reeds etc and all attractive in their own right. One of the pits I fish is/was heavily planted with bulrush and reeds and has numerous hidden swims where you can easily tuck yourself away and catch numerous species of fish. Well look at what they have done to the place. I cannot understand why they have raped this pit like this, there was absolutely no need. Well after seeing this disgrace I set off to fish one of the other pits on this complex. A...

RAIN , RAIN AND MORE RAIN.....

Image
I,ve been sitting in my office all day catching up on paperwork and all I can hear outside is bloody rain. I know we need as much as possible as the reservoirs are low and the rivers need a good flush through, but i,m getting bored with it now. My job is 100% dependant on weather so as you can guess I havn,t been able to do much over the past few weeks as we keep getting rained off. Having a bit of spare time is fine with me but unless I want to get soaked I can,t even go fishing, so i,ve been stuck in the office catching up on paperwork or in my warehouse building shelves and tidying up. Nevermind i,ll live I suppose....... As mentioned i,ve barely been fishing since catching my pb bream. Ryan and i did manage a weekend on our new water, where I blanked but he had a cracking mirror carp of 28lb 6oz which made it all worthwhile. I know it sounds like a cop out but as long as one of us catch I deem it to be a success, even if the captor is not  me.. Guess what, it rained there a...

NEW TOY

Image
I just thought i,d post a picture of my new toy which i,m hoping will give me hours of fishing fun. Shes really lightweight so I can pop her on my shoulder and walk a good distance with her if I choose. I bought the glassfibre hull from a chappy not far from Downham Market and had my Dad fit the gunnels, seats and ancillaries for me. She looks great and I can,t wait to give her a maiden voyage. My plans are to use her on a couple of local small rivers where I can get to areas where its not feasible to bank fish ( and not allowed). Also I fancy having a go at bass fishing from her as a local estaury where I have found some good bass ground has little current and would be ideal to trot a float fished peeler crab down tide or even have a go at lure fishing for them. I might even take her up the Fens and try a couple of drains.
