Hospital musings

I'm sitting here at a London hospital, for the life of me I can't remember the name of it, waiting for my mum to finish having some tests done prior to having an operation, nothing serious this time thankfully. There's nowt to do but browse the web for fishing related stuff and I've found some quite interesting content and some complete pony.

I've watched a utube film showing perch taking lives, ginger angler I think the chaps called, which is well worth a watch, and I've been flicking through people's perch catches from up and down the country. All those beautiful sergeants have really got me in the mood to have a try or them this weekend. Unfortunately I have a lot of diy to do but I'm going to try and grab a couple of hours dangling Sunday morning, hopefully I'll have something to report soon.

I have actually been fishing once or twice since last posting so hopefully I'll update you on these trips soon, once I can find a spare hour or so.

'RAYS' OF SUNSHINE

 Lately there have been a few reports of the thornback rays showing up in the local tidal river in good numbers so I thought i,d set out to catch one. I have caught a few thornies in the past but I,m far from proficient at it, so I,ve set myself a little goal of fishing for them more over the next couple of months so that I can learn as much about them for future fishing trips. They're actually not too difficult a species to catch as they're not really rig shy and as long as a nice fresh bait is placed in front of them then you,re in with a chance. SELLING MY BOAT

I,ve come to the tough decision that i have to sell one of my fishing boats as i barely use it any more and i need the space. The boat is a Shetland 535 Fast fisher 17ft glassfibre jobbie with a tuned 40hp yamaha outboard on the back. The boat itself is ready to go fishing with all steering and morse controls working fine. The gelcoat is a bit flat but sound, theres no holes or osmosis and just needs water.  The outboard is a Yamaha 40hp and was rebuilt a few years ago and has only been used for a few hours and is in immaculate condition and runs fine. Its electric start and needs an external fuel tank. As the pictures will show its immaculate. The trailer needs a little bit of work, new wheel bearings and possibly a little welding here and there. All in all its ready to go and is ideal either for sea fishing or pike fishing. I,m after £1200 which is a good price considering what i,ve seen them going for on ebay. SMALL RIVER ROVING

With Christmas out of the way and copious amounts of food consumed i needed to get out in the fresh air and stretch my legs so of down the local tackle shop i went and came out with a couple pints of maggots and a box of lobworms. A good few years ago i had a little explorative walk along a small river 15 or so miles away from me, as i had heard a couple of chub had been caught, and thought it would be worth a try at some point but had never really got round to it. Well i had an itch to roam a river and seeing as the River Chelmer is such a shadow of its former self a new venue was needed, and seeing as i didn,t have the time to venture upto Peterborough and fish the River Nene this tiny little water would be my chosen venue.  I arrived on the banks at first light after a short walk and set up a chubber float to fish a tiny little weir pool, of off the main river, which fed a tiny stream which ran through a nearby golf coarse.
